I just relocated here and I'm still trying to know the state laws especially the outdoor activities. While I was checking out the park regulations, I realized I’m not entirely clear on the rules about carrying for personal safety in state parks. Are special permissions required?

My understanding, unless there are prohibited signs or it states it in specific rules you are allowed. But I have seen that where there is no rules against the carry several areas prohibit the discharge. Now does that apply to target practice or defensive use that is unclear . I would assume the former instead of the later, others that are open to hunting have statements about so many feet from campsite, structures, and roads. Myself I would not go and target practice in a state park, but I am also not going to leave myself or my family without defensive options.

BTW , welcome to the forum. Great people here. Welcome to Maine also. Great place to be, know this, as I do, you will always be from away, but it's up to you if you fit in or stand out.
