Hope everyone's having a good time here!

I'd love to know, what’s one hunting mistake you’ll always remember? Maybe it was that moment your scope went busted, or you realized the boots you wore were totally wrong, or perhaps you spooked the game way too soon. I’d love to hear your stories. Let’s swap some lessons and have a good laugh along the way!

You just made me think of a hunting memory I'd rather forget. A few seasons ago, in my 3rd or 4th year really getting into hunting. I woke up at the crack of dawn and drove out to my favorite spot, lugging all my gear with me.

The sun rises, and not long after, I see this gorgeous buck weaving through the oak trees. My heart is racing, palms are sweaty, just the whole nervous excitement thing. He’s getting closer, and I'm thinking, "Alright, I might actually pull this off."

I get him locked in at about 90 yards perfect shot, clear as day. I squeeze the trigger, and... nothing. The safety's still on.

I flip it off in a rush, but of course, by then, he's staring right at me like, "Really, dude?" And just like that, he vanishes in the blink of an eye.

I sat there for a solid 20 minutes just reliving that moment like a broken record. I felt so stupid. To this day, my buddy can't resist bringing it up whenever we're hanging out before a hunt. He loves to tease me with, "Hey, did you remember to take your safety off THIS time?" Seriously, I don't think I'll ever hear the end of it.

Was going to start a new thread but this kind of went into this one at the end.
Hunting yesterday , got into the first stand a little before 0900. Set for a little over 2 hours didn't see anything but a squirrel . Only heard a couple shots way, way off in the distance . Moved to one of my favorites deeper in the woods. Had been sitting for about 3 hours. Hand was getting cold so I stuffed it in my jacket. Out of the corner of my eye see movement. A doe had got to 25 yards. My rifle was hanging on the hook with my spare hat over the scope, it had started spitting sleat earlier . So I went to my Blackhawk on my hip. Unsnaped the holster and her head popped up . She put her head back down and i drew. Back scope cap popped head came back up then down again. Front scope cap popped, now she stomps and turns broad side and starts walking. Raised up and she stepped into the crossbar. had a funky position not able extend. Stong arm bent, weak hand trying to support under the frame. Hammer fell and she kicked and went over the hill. Then I realized my finger tip and thumb were burning. My grip was to close to the cylinder. Thumb stopped hurting in a couple of minutes, but my finger was numb for over an hour. 2 1/2 hours later she was in the truck.
Getting to old to hunt by myself that deep in the woods.
