You just made me think of a hunting memory I'd rather forget. A few seasons ago, in my 3rd or 4th year really getting into hunting. I woke up at the crack of dawn and drove out to my favorite spot, lugging all my gear with me.

The sun rises, and not long after, I see this gorgeous buck weaving through the oak trees. My heart is racing, palms are sweaty, just the whole nervous excitement thing. He’s getting closer, and I'm thinking, "Alright, I might actually pull this off."

I get him locked in at about 90 yards perfect shot, clear as day. I squeeze the trigger, and... nothing. The safety's still on.

I flip it off in a rush, but of course, by then, he's staring right at me like, "Really, dude?" And just like that, he vanishes in the blink of an eye.

I sat there for a solid 20 minutes just reliving that moment like a broken record. I felt so stupid. To this day, my buddy can't resist bringing it up whenever we're hanging out before a hunt. He loves to tease me with, "Hey, did you remember to take your safety off THIS time?" Seriously, I don't think I'll ever hear the end of it.
