Road Trip with a Gun

Planning a trip to visit family and trying to figure out the best route. I'd like to bring a firearm with me, but going through New York State makes that tricky. It seems like avoiding NY adds a ridiculous amount of drive time, and I'm weighing my options. I've looked into different routes, but nothing seems perfect. Has anyone else dealt with this before? I'm open to suggestions on how to handle the situation without making the trip feel like a marathon.

As soon as you hit the People's Republic lock it up as required until you reach another free state . If you get stopped answer the question as you feel you need to. I personally would disclose as little information as as I can. Being a public forum I won't say the answer I would give. Just drove through 3 less than free states and will return next week. Done it annually for many years without a hitch. Federal law states you can pass through as long as it's not your final destination .
