What was your first handgun, and do you still have it? I remember mine vividly; it was a bit of a clunker, but it brought back so many memories. I’d love to hear your stories and maybe see some old photos if you’ve got them!

I was a lifelong resident of NY and never shot a firearm until I was 49 but never pursued getting a pistol permit. Five years later, I moved to Maine and bought a Taurus GX4. It was ok, but I never was comfortable with relying on just a trigger blade safety. I traded it in and got a Ruger Max 9.

Had this Taurus PT111 first, worked ok but was kinda picky. Traded it for a Glock 19 later. Learned to buy reliable stuff first time.

I think my first gun would have been something like a Ruger P89. It's big and a bit clunky but it was solid for learning the ropes. I mean, it always went bang when I needed it to. For me, it wasn’t about looking good or having the fanciest one. It was about picking up the basics and really building my confidence along the way.

I get that too. One of my first was a pair of P94's in 40. They weren't the bell of the ball, but they are built like tanks. Recently picked up an unmodified 89. Sent it to Ruger, got it back fully reconditioned with another mag. Great backup to the backup.
