How many rounds can a barrel handle before it's considered too much?

For anyone who's used up multiple barrels, what observations have you made about barrel life over the years? Do you notice that your replacement intervals tend to be consistent across similar platforms?

Only ever replaced one barrel because of age. I had a 1903 that I used for the clone Marine Corps 1941. Had bought the barrel for another gun and it was there when I started the build, so I figured why not. Unless your a high round count competitor or shooting something in the 3500 fps plus range any barrel should last a life time. now I have changed barrels for more performance, bull barrels on 1022's ect.
