For those of you familiar with .22 Mag pistols or revolvers, I'm curious, can they shoot .22 LR? I'm looking to clear up some of the conflicting info I've been hearing.

The LR will chamber in a winmag, but it's not a good idea, maybe closer to dangerous. There is a thousandth of an inch difference. Revolvers with separate cylinders are safe and win mag can be accurate, as the projectile will seal into the lans and groves tighter.

Oh, I've definitely heard that confusion before. They're not interchangeable in the way some folks imagine, so personally, I wouldn't even risk trying it out.

Years ago my dad loaned his Mossburg Chuckster .22 mag rifle to his mother and aunt who were summering at his grandfather's old farm. They had a garden being raided by a woodchuck. They tried shooting at it off and on all summer with no success and they were using .22lr ammo. They were not missing due to the ammo. They just couldn't shoot as well as when they were younger.
In late summer our family and my dad's brother's family all gathered there for a meal. The woodchuck showed up while we were there, dad and uncle John went out with that .22 mag, loaded with .22lr and the woodchuck was no more!
It's not a good idea to do it, but we found out that it worked just fine in that Mossburg bolt action.
