When it comes to running optics across multiple platforms, how does your zero confirmation process differ for pistols compared to rifles?

Hey Alan, want clarification on your question before I get into a long winded answer. Are you swapping optics or is it more about zeroing specific guns to optics and purpose?

Been waiting for Allen to respond to give a direct answer , but haven't heard from him.

First, I am going to assume he was speaking of single gun, single scope.
There what I call two types of mind set for scopes. Target and hunting. Both can be used for hunting but not for target.
TARGET: Setting zero for a specific range. I normally use 100 yards, because that's what I have. Every other distance is dialed in but x number of clicks of elevation for yards added. ie.. a 308 shooting 165's zeroed at 100 yards would require approximately 54 clicks(1/4 moa adjustments) to be on target at 600 yards. This requires time on the range at specific ranges and keep DOPE written down.
HUNTING: Requires you the know your Maximum Point Blank Range. MPBR is the maximun range the bullet rises and falls between you and your target to keep it in an ethical kill zone. A Maine whitetail deer is about 8 in. For a coyote about 3 in. That's the old 1 or 2 in high at 100 yards. The 30 06 can be set for MPBR to about 350 yards if you are about 4.1 in high at 100 yards. This is an est depending one bullet weight, velocity, ect.
All that being said, unless you hunt big open fields shots are normally 100 yards or less, I keep my PBR to 150 yards keeping my high low closer to 4 in for more possible shooter error .
A little long winded but hope it helps someone.
